2008 Stock Cars Rules for
Cool McCool 100 Roll Cage & Safety Rules 1. Main roll cages must be 4 point design with minimum 1 3/4" O.D. tubing with a minimum thickness of .095 inch, low carbon or mild steel Recommended. An inspection hole of at least 1/8" diameter must be easily accessible. Four-post roll cage required, front down bars and rear hoop must be welded to OEM frame. Any welded or angle joint must have a 2" X 2" gusset welded to the main roll cage. On full frame cars, the roll cage must be welded to the frame at all 4 corners. Driver’s head must not protrude outside cage with helmet on. Head clearance from top of helmet to top of roll cage will be at least 3". No offset cages. 2. All door bars and uprights must be a minimum of 1 3/4 inch O.D. and .095 inch wall thickness. Minimum three door bars, both drivers and passenger sides, parallel to the ground and perpendicular to the driver. Minimum four uprights tied from frame to top door on driver side and minimum three uprights on passenger side. It is mandatory that drivers door bars be plated. Steel doorplates, 18-gauge or .049-inch minimum thickness must be securely welded to outside of door bars on driver’s side. Plate must cover area from top door bar to rocker panel and from rear down post to five inches in front of seat. Must be visible for inspection. 3. Rear roll bars must have an "X" .race, consisting of one full horizontal and one full diagonal bar, minimum 1.25-inch O.D. and .083-inch wall thickness. Front down bars must be tied together, passenger side front down bars must be a maximum eleven (11) inches in from top of door. Must be minimum 40 inches between front and rear down bars at top of door panel. Maximum 41 inches, (48 inches for 1988 - 1996 GM bodies) from top center of windshield to front edge of rear hoop; maximum 13 inches (20 inches for 1988-1996 GM Bodies) to front edge of top halo. Top halo must be minimum 40 inches across, outside to outside. Rear hoop may be maximum 12 inches in from bottom of opera window. Minimum one cross bar in top halo. May have maximum two horizontal bars, (in addition to bar tying front frame horns together) for radiator protection: must be behind bumper, with in confines of the body, no wider that stock frame horns. 4. Minimum of three windshield bars in front of driver. 5. Drive shaft must be painted white and drive shaft loop, metal, chain, etc is mandatory. 6. Fuel cell
and a tip over valve mandatory. Safety Equipment 1. Safety belts must be 5 point approved racing harness. Must be secured to roll cage in an approved manner. 2. Aluminum high back seat only bolted to the roll cage. Seat may be no farther back than rear edge of the B pillar on Ford and older GM bodies. 3. Roll bar padding required in driver compartment (Fire retardant recommended). 4.
Driver’s windows net required minimum 16" (inch) x 20"
(inch) ribbon or mesh style and must be mounted so latch is a top front of the
driver's side window. Kill switch is
mandatory and must be mounted with in easy reach of the driver and clearly
marked ON and OFF. Car and Body 1. Any American OEM full body rear wheel drive passenger car, 1964 or Newer, full frame or uni-body passenger cars only. No station wagons, convertibles, front wheel drives, rear- engines or rusted and loose bodied cars permitted. 2. No wheel base shorter than 107.5. Pro AM type cars, Camaro and Nova style cars, allowed. 3. Body parts must be OEM. This includes the floor pan, in original position and centered over wheel wells. 4. Body/Engine must be of same make. 5. All cars must have complete factory floor pan and complete fire walls front and rear. No glass, mirrors, plastic parts or moldings. 6. Driver must be sealed off from track, drive line, engine and fuel cell. 7. Dash not to extend more than 24" (inches) back from center of lower windshield opening. Dash must be flat, rear can be no higher than front, except for cowl in front of driver. 8. No other interior tin or covers. (Dog Houses) 9. Doors may be gutted; roof may be trimmed for roll cage clearance. Kick and rocker panels may be removed. 10. No cutting on floor pan, any holes must be covered from underside with metal. Rear firewall and speaker deck must be metal and be of OEM design for that body. Front firewall from factory seam up may be replaced with minimum .049-inch thickness steel. All holes in firewalls must be covered with metal. 11. No mirrors or reflective sun visors 12. Wheel wells may be trimmed for tire clearance but must retain stock appearance. 13. A fuel cell must be mounted in the trunk area in an approved manner. 14. Batteries may not be mounted in the drivers compartment. Must be in marine type case securely mounted to the frame or roll cage in metal frame. 15. No weights in the drivers compartment. Weights must be painted white with the car number on them. Weights must be securely mounted to the frame or roll cage with approved weight clamps. Weights must be bolted to the frame or weight clamps with one half inch (1/2) grade 8 bolts. No titanium, magnesium or carbon fiber products. No gun-drilled, tubular, hollow bolts or studs. 16. Front bumper construction optional but must remain in the original position. May be factory or tubular and may be reinforced. No bracing to exceed past original bumper. No "cow catcher" type additions above or below either bumper. Must be covered by stock appearing nose and plastic. Subject to approval by JMS Officials. 17. All bodies must be steel or aluminum and stock appearing. No fiberglass body parts allowed. EXCEPTION: After market plastic nose and tail pieces allowed but must match body style. 18. Hood and trunk lids must have hood-pins and be easily removable by track officials. 19. Side skirts will be allowed no lower than 1" (inch) below the frame rail. 20. Must have tow hook that is easily accessible from both front and rear of car. 21. Driver must be sealed from the track, driveline, engine and fuel cell. 22.
Numbering of cars must be at least 18" (INCHES) and 3" (inches)
wide. Number must be located on both sides of the car and the roof. If the
number is unreadable you will be notified to make necessary changes for the
following week. For 2006 cars must have a 6" (inch) number on a mounting
plate in the upper right hand corner of the windshield area.
23. Weight Rule,
3100# (lbs).
Suspension
1. Factory intent stock suspension. 2. All control arms and suspension components must be factory OEM length and match OEM frame. 3. Front and rear suspensions remain in stock location. Stock A-frames may be reinforced. Tubular upper A-arms OK. 4. Rubber, nylon or steel lower A frame bushings only, no offset or bearing type. 5. No sway bars. 6. Weight jacks allowed however must be in original centerline of spring tower. No devices allowed that would enable driver adjustment to alter the wheelbase or weight jacking while car is in competition. 7. No torque arms, pull bars allowed anywhere on rear suspension. Rear suspension must retain stock non adjustable trailing arms. 8. All rear end suspension components and mounts must be steel, unaltered OEM, in OEM location and match frame. Rubber or nylon control arm bushings only, no offset or bearing type. Welded single-hole shock mounts only. Coil springs may be moved, but 50% must be located over top of rear end housing. No independent rear suspension. Shocks may be moved, but must remain behind housing. 9. Frame rails may be no lower than 5" from ground. 10. No under slung bars under rear frame. 11. No rack-n-pinion steering. 12. One steel spring per wheel only. All coil springs must be minimum 4.5 inches O.D. and non progressive. 13. Shocks do not have to be in stock location how ever must be single hole shock mounts only. Shocks cannot go through center of aftermarket upper A frames. Shocks must be steel non-adjustable and unaltered. One shock per wheel. No coil over, air, or remote reservoir shocks, or Schrader valves. No coil over eliminators. 14. After market brake, clutch and master cylinders allowed. No brake shut-off valves allowed and proportioning devices must be front to rear only. All cars must have 4 brakes in working order, one per wheel. 15. No added weight can be located inside the driver’s compartment. 16.
No traction control devices. Wheels & Tires 1. Any steel eight inch wide rim with bead lock on right wheel only. 2. Hoosier Race Tire, G60-15, American Racer racing tires G60-15. 3.
No grooving, sipping, or softening of tires allowed.
Grinding or buffing will be
allowed however method will be closely scrutinized. Fuel System 1. Mechanical OEM type push rod fuel pumps only. Racing fuel cell required, maximum 22 gallon, must be in minimum 18 gauge steel container. Must be securely fastened in trunk above top of rear frame rails, with minimum two solid steel straps around entire cell, two inches wide and .125 inch thick. 2. Metal firewall must be between driver and fuel cell. All cell mounts must be steel, securely welded to frame/cage. 3. No adjustable fuel cell mounts. Fuel cell vents, including cap vent, must have check valves. Fuel lines through driver compartment must run through metal pipe or metal conduit. No fuel filters in driver's compartment must run through metal pipe or metal conduit. No fuel filters in driver's compartment. One fuel filter allowed. 4. No cool cans. 5. Air cleaner top/stud cannot direct air into carburetor. No top flow air cleaner housings, cold air boxes or air cleaner duct work. 6.
Must use unaltered 350 c.f.m Holley-part no. 90-80787-1-with no
modifications, or part no. 0-80787-1.
Air bleeds cannot be removed, .076 inch maximum diameter.
Float bowl must face forward. Carburetor
adapter/space allowed, maximum 1.20 inches thick, including gaskets. Engine 1. Any American make engine allowed. 2. Steel heads, block and oil pan only. OEM passenger vehicle production block only. 3. No GM Bowtie, Ford SV) o9r Chrysler W blocks. 4. Castings and fittings cannot be changed, no machine work on outside of engine. No cubic inch limit. May use steel roller tip rocker arms. No stud girdles. Flat tappet cam/lifters only. No mushroom lifters. Cannot alter lifter bores. 5.
OEM cast iron intake may be ported/polished.
Unaltered aftermarket Weiand aluminum intake allowed-Chevrolet, Weiand
part # 7547=1; Ford 6. Unaltered cast iron or aluminum intake. Aluminum water pumps allowed. "Wet" sump oiling system only. Accumulator allowed. 7. Engines must remain in stock position. 8.
Recommended are solid motor mounts.
Transmissions 1. Cars must have at least one gear forward and one reverse plus a neutral position. With the motor running and car in a still position, driver must be able to engage car in gear and mover forward and then backward. 2. Only OEM production type transmissions will be allowed. No five speed transmissions in and out boxes or quick changes devices allowed. No aftermarket transmission i.e. Berts, Brinns, Falcons and so on. 3. The flywheel / flex plate must be bolted directly to the end of the crankshaft and the pressure plate must be bolted directly to the flywheel. One flywheel only and all drive line components with in the bell housing must rotate while the car is in gear. 4. Manual transmissions must have a blow proof bell housing. 5.
Automatic must have an approved have scatter shield or blanket.
Scatter shield may be constructed of .25 inch steel, 270 degrees around flex
plate/flywheel.
Radiators 1.
No auxiliary radiators or cooling squirters are allowed. Aluminum
radiators will be allowed. |
