2008 Cool McCool 100 Crate Late Model Rules

*** Warning ***

THE RULES AND /OR REGULATIONS SET FORTH HEREIN ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE FOR THE ORDERLY CONDUCT OF RACING EVENTS AND TO ESTABLISH MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCH EVENTS.  THESE RULES SHALL GOVERN THE CONDITION OF ALL EVENTS, AND , BY PARTICIPATING IN THESE EVENTS, ALL COMPETITORS ARE DEEMED TO HAVE COMPLIED WITH THESE RULES.  NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND /OR REGULATIONS THEY ARE INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE SPORT AND IN NO WAY A GUARANTEE AGAINST INJURY OR DEATH TO PARTICIPANTS, SPECTATORS, OR OTHERS.

The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.

SECTION 1:  CRATE ENGINE RULES

A. The following engines will be legal at JMS: GM crate engine # 88958602 and GM crate engine #88958604. The Ford and Dodge crate motor numbers have not yet been determined.

B. Engines may be interchanged within manufacturer’s lines.

C. All competing models are allowed a maximum engine set back of 8 inches to be measured from the center of the forward most spark plug hole to the center of the upper ball joint.

                       D. May run any 2 barrel carburetor up to 500 c.f.m. or any 4 barrel carburetor up to 850 c.f.m. carburetor.

E. All carburetors are subject to a claim rule of $500.00 for either a 2 barrel or 4 barrel carburetor.

F. Gasoline can be premium grade unleaded pump gas or a spec racing fuel to be announced. No alcohol, ethanol or oxygen bearing additives allowed.

G. There may be weight breaks given or weight added depending on the horsepower of the crate engine manufacturer (GM, Ford, and Dodge) engine that is used or at the discretion of the JMS officials.

                        H. All engine casting numbers stamped on the engine will be left on the block at the bell housing area.

 I. No epoxying of block numbers will be allowed. Block numbers will be stamped by inspector if needed.

J. The engine block must retain all standard external dimensions with the exception of the maximum allowable overbore and the surfacing of the block deck. Angle cutting of the block deck will not be permitted. All dimensions will be determined by GM, Ford or Dodge crate motor manufacturers and JMS tech officials. JMS Speedway officials will provide competitors with a list of dealers in your area that sell the GM, Ford or Dodge crate engine. After you purchase an engine from the GM, Ford or Dodge dealer, engine is required to be taken to the dyno shop of an approved JMS engine builder. JMS will have multiple engine builder choices that have a dyno shop where engine may be taken. The selected engine builder will stamp an JMS issued serial number onto your engine on the block pad above the oil filter. The engine builder will make sure that the engine meets JMS crate engine specifications and provide a dyno sheet on that engine to JMS. This dyno sheet will be used for tech purposes during racing season or until the engine is freshened.

K. An engine serial number will be issued by JMS officials to all crate engines. You must get that serial number before you dyno your crate engine. Crate engines must have been issued an engine serial number by JMS officials before that engine will be allowed to race at JMS. Note: The serial number must be stamped on the left rear block pad above the oil filter.

L. JMS has the right to impound the crate engine of any competitor at any time and have that engine re-dynoed. Horsepower ratings must be within 15 horsepower of original dyno sheet received from dyno shop after original engine purchase (or most recent rebuild). If there is a greater than 15 horsepower increase, or the engine has non-approved modifications, the engine may be confiscated by JMS and driver/owner fined as described in Item M below.

M. Anyone found altering or attempting to increase a crate engines performance will be fined as follows: $1,000 driver and $1,000 owner or $2,000 if owner and driver are same person. Fines must be paid to JMS before driver and owner will be allowed to return and race at JMS. On the second offense, fine will be $2,500 driver and $2,500 owner or $5,000 if owner and driver are same person PLUS a one calendar year suspension.

SECTION 2: INTAKE MANIFOLDS SPACER PLATES, AND IGNITION SYSTEMS

The following MSD #’s are allowed: P/N 8728, MSD Soft Touch Rev Control, is designed to be used on standard points ignition or inductive ignition systems. This means that the PN8728 can be installed on engines with a GM HEI Ignition, Ford or Chrysler electronic ignition and any standard breaker points system without an MSD box. P/N 8738 MSD Soft Touch Rev Control for use with MSD 6T, 6TN Ignition Boxes.  P/N 6420 MSD 6AL Ignition Control Box with Rev Limiter Built-In. P/N 6430, MSD 6 ALN Ignition Control Box with Rev Limiter Built-In. MSD boxes must be out of reach of driver and accessible for tech.

E. All cars are required to use a window net in the driver's door window. Arm restraints highly recommended.

F. Ballast (extra weight) added to the car for weight rule conformance must consider all provisions of safety and must be securely fastened. Ballast must be bolted to the frame or cage only. No ballast may be mounted above the interior deck to rub rails or body mounts. Any ballast weight over 25# must be drilled and mounted with two 1/2" studs through each weight. No ballast blocks less than 5 lbs nor more than 60# will be allowed. No stacking of ballast. Ballast must be painted white and stamped with your car number (this is a maintenance item and must be maintained all year).

G. A fire extinguisher, in working order and up to date, will be required in your race car.

H. No transmitting or listening devices in car. No electronic monitoring computer devices capable of storing or transmitting information except tach allowed on car. No electronic or mechanical traction control devices allowed. No digital gauges allowed.
